Now don't go telling the Viper crowd that they're driving around with an
engine based on the archaic 5.9L. (They have a hard enough time with the
fact that the original rear brakes were off of a Caravan and the coil packs
were from a Neon and Minivan) ;)
But yes, the LA/Magnum engines are essentially the same thing with design
changes differentiating them. Even around here - "LA" is an old V8, Magnum
is the current design.

Okaaaaayyyyy - I went to The Source (Allpar.com) and yes - they are LA
engines. Not just the V8's... the 3.9L V6 and the current Viper engine are
all from the LA family. I stand corrected in that I had said before the LA
name was not right for a 2001 360 engine. While they are ALL LA engines
technically... I will state that the general acceptance is that if you talk
about an LA engine around the DML - you are talking about a "Pre-magger"
engine built prior to the Magnum engine production.
Its the old Mac or PC deal... a Mac is a "Personal Computer" but when
someone says "PC" its generally taken to mean a WinTel box...
