The engine management and emissions system is Cummins...turns out it's not
Chryslers. From the engineer that I spoke with, it would be Mercedes (we're
not talking about big Rig engines though...totally different design).

I don't see why they'd leave Cummins. Aren't the problems having to do with
the engine management and emissions? That's not Cummins fault.
Additionally, if the merger goes through, the CTD will probably be replaced
with an Isuzu Duramax engine.
