You'll need to find out what the actual trans code is before speculating on
what the problem is. It could be a simple sensor or a valve body...hard to
say without knowing the code. If it is the solenoid pack...it's a complete
plate that you need to R&R from the valve body assembly.

Subject: DML: 01 Dakota Trans Code
I've got a code P0700 which by itself means check the TCM for the real code
from what I understand. My truck will let out a "clunk" from the drivelive
occasionally, and then refuse to downshift. It started @ Carlisle this last
year when I got off the Turnpike. It would not downshift on it's own and
even tried to start out in 3rd @ the first light. If I manually shift it,
the truck moves down the road fine. If I turn it off and turn it back on,
the problem is reset. I was told that it's a solenoid in the trans that's
going bad, but I don't remember what it was called & I'm told the cost of
the part is ~$350.
Anyone know the name of this thing so I can track it down? The truck is an
01 Dakota SLT CC 4.7L, Auto, 2WD.
Thanks in advance
