Having read all the comments, I come out as follows:
Hop's link to the Hopkins kit (#42115) turned out to be the winner.
Ever-thorough Jon's comments are duly noted and very much appreciated. I
get the part about the "common bulb system" and will bear this in mind as I
go forward.
Regarding Brian's lead to Wal-Mart as a source, I discovered a "Vehicle-side
Wiring Kit" by Hopkins, suitable for "GM / Ford / Dodge / Imports" for
$39.97. For the hell of it, I contacted Hopkins and inquired about this.
The guy there assured me that THAT kit was only suitable for Dakotas as new
as about 2007 or 2008 - definitely NOT as old as (my) 1997. With that in
mind, I ordered the #42115 kit for $32.99 (+ $10 S&H).
The issue w/ the Wal-Mart kit - seemingly "generic" - was addressed at the
end of Jon's comments. In the end, Hopkins advised against what Wal-Mart
had - at least for my '97.
As usual - I appreciate all the helpful comments.
