hmmm, I think you missed my point. We'd seen a bit of leaking coolant,
then one day the car just shuts off due to overheating (the day after a
500km trip). I /think/ I would have noticed the temp climbing, but the
gauge is normally covered by where I normally keep the steering wheel
:-(. I can't speak for my wife of course.

Cooling fans appear to be operating correctly, and it's worth noting
that the boiling over occurs when the car is shut off and the temp gauge
is NOT above normal.
