I've left mine on for the last 8 years (though I do clean it). I even
took out the rubber flap between the radiator to get more airflow. When
I drove through Colorado and Utah in March, through a snowstorm, there
was a huge ice and snow dam around the air filter that had to be chipped
off. I would not recommend removing that during snowstorms.
