Thanks for the link, I knew it was a common question but the archives
were a little disjointed on the subject. The LA covers are definitely
an option.

I already bought the magnum-style gasket... I guess I'll try installing
those first and see if the valve covers are warped for sure or not. It
wouldn't surprise me if the previous owner tried to RTV them on
considering my past experiences with this truck. I torqued the bolts a
little tighter and it seems to have helped a little bit.

I wonder if something like this would still fit, I kind of like the
"fabbed" look:

 I'm running a set of Edelbrock (LA style, p/n 4495) valve covers
 on my '96. I got them used from a DMLer, but even brand new, they are
 less than $40.
