& I am not exactly sure but my 85 Daytona had a 85mph speedo and both my 89 Dakota
& and 89 Shelby Daytona have 125mph speedos.

Another data point: My '88 Yamaha has a 110mph speedo.

Not all "85mph" speedos are the same. I know that when the law was
repealed that Ford kept using 85mph speedos in most of their cars
(except the mustang) but they took out the peg that stopped the needle
from going past 85mph. The needle would keep going around until it
pegged when almost straight down at 100-110 mph.

My Dakota has the Michelin LT tires, which are only speed rated for
85 mph max. 90-100 for a short burst might be ok, but I wouldn't feel
safe trying to go 125. I hear that Pirelli makes a light truck tire
that is H rated (130mph), the Skorpian I think they call it.
