It is my understanding that the Infinity system has the power amp's built into
the back of each speaker, hence a very low power output from the base unit
itself.
If you were to drop in another CD system that contained the power amp in the
base unit, it would overdrive the amps built into the speakers and cause them to
burn out.
The only way to get around this would be to take each speaker out and connect
your speaker leads to the speaker itself, bypassing the built in power amp
section. That is, if of course, based on the possibility that the power amp was
designed in such a manner that you could bypass it. A quick check should be easy
enough to see how it was designed.
