Speaking of what's coming out of the exhaust....
My '95 318 5-spd runs great, no real probs (knock on wood), but since I
"enhanced" performance (open K&N 14x3, headers, hi-flo exhaust, Bosch
Platinums, silicone wires) I've noticed a lot of popping, farting, burping,
backfiring, whatever in between shifts and on deceleration. Aside from
possible indications of more serious problems, it sounds really cheesy. I
thought I read here once that Bosch Platinums were the cause of this (I don't
rightly recall, though), other times that it was the exhaust fault. My
self-proclaimed automotive genius friend tells me that it's a bad mass
airflow sensor (???) causing the truck to run rich (I get about 17.5
combination mileage and I have a VERY heavy foot, not to mention an airdam
that goes from the bottom of the bumper to about 2" off the ground).
Anybody experience this problem before? I'd try new H.O. type plugs, but
they ain't cheap, and I'm a little behind on the Visa payment (maxxed out by
truck toys, natch)......
