I had the same problem the other night!!! Turns out that when I was barefoot
I couldn't push the clutch pedal down far enough to.... HA HA HA I thought
I was losing my mind...

--related story

I had a '76 Honda Civic a long time ago, and it had the problems you
have mentioned. Sometime I would give up and bump start it... Eventually
it would NEVER turn over, so I went to get a new starter installed.. I was told
$50 for the starter, and $50 labor to remove the old, and install the new.
When I came back to pick up my car, I got the bill $75.00!!! I couldn't figure it out.
I asked the guy why only $75, and not $100 (not that I was complaining!)..He told
me "You DIDN'T have a starter to remove!!" HA HA HA I couldn't believe it... Makes
since I guess. I then was able to recall driving home one night a month before and I
hit a piece of tire in the road, and a loud 'THUD' was heard right after that... Cars
swerved behind me all over the place... I thought it was because of the tire!! :P

    I sure miss that car!
