Here are the dimensions of Dakota speakers according to the Crutchfield
catalog (800-955-3000) for '87-'96 models:
Front Door: 5 1/4" Depth: 3 7/8" -- some speaker magnets may interfere
with the speaker cavity.
Cab Corner: 5x7" Depth: 2 7/8" -- only if truck equipped with factory
speakers, or you replace molded plastic interior parts. Bottom-mount
speakers only.
Receiver dimensions:
Chrysler-GM oversize opening - no adapter required.
euro-DIN, "S" and "U" chassis require various adapters to fill dash space.
Mounting depth available: 7 1/8"
A few comments:
They only listed one front-end (a $430 Pioneer CD receiver) in slip-in
size.
The 5x7" corner speakers aren't a problem. They offer six speakers that fit.
[Someone mentioned 6x9s, they list seventeen models, but none of them are
shallow enough to hide behind the stock grills.] Another option are several
of the plate speakers, which are easier to bi-amp; though you need to hide
a subwoofer under the seat or in a Big Ugly Box.
