Hi everyone,

I'm new to the Dakota Mailing List and have been lurking for
a week or so. I placed an order for a '97 Dakota Sport on January 20th
and have no build/ship dates yet (I'll post when I know). The Details
are as follows: Red 4x2 regular cab/shortbed, 3.9L/5spd, 3.55SG, power windows/
locks/mirrors, courtesy light pkg, 22 gal tank, fog lights, 15x8 tire and
handling pkg. I bought the truck for a daily driver and weekend
dirtbike hauler.

I am new to the Dakota, but not so new to Mopars. This truck is retiring my
current daily driver, a '70 Dart Swinger with a /6. I am a Muscle Car
enthusiast true and through, and am currently restoring a '68 GTX. I should
have it road-worthy this spring. I am also a current member of the Mopar
Mailing List.

Seems like a lot of you folks are running 318's in your trucks and there
appears to be a handfull of performance upgrades available. Question is,
is the primary source of Hi-Po stuff Mopar Performance? Any other major
sources?

I know the 3.9 is only 3/4's of a 5.2 and isn't exactly a power house but
are there any performance upgrades available for this engine? I'm asking
only out of curiosity. Are the usual computers (or proms), high flow air
filters (don't want to start a K&N debate), headers, and exhaust systems
available? Does Paxton or anyone make a super charger or turbo kit for
the 3.9. <*really big grin*> ;)

And finally, what was the HP ratings for the garden variety 3.9 through the
years since '87? The '97 is rated at 175. I guess this is measured "at the
crank"?

Please excuse so many questions. I look forward learning a thing or two
and hope to contribute as much as I can.

Later on,

Matt
