Re[4]: shortening axle housing

This would be the easiest way but would eliminate the rear ABS. I
know that on new mustangs the exiter gear for the anitlock in pressed
onto the axle but I'm completely ignorant about the Dak setup. To get
a shorter axle and keep the ABS I'll have to have the axles shortened
and resplined and have the housing shorted also. I'm real leary about
doing this to a brand new truck. Maybe by summer someone will have
wrecked one and I can get a rear from the boneyard. As for now I
think I'm gonna stick with the stock wheels (it's not that I don't
like 'em....I'd rather have something different looking though) and
mount 275/60's on 'em for the rear. The stock 215/75 in the front
makes a perfect looking big-n-little combo.

If you guys are shortening the rear axels why not just use the old 5 hole
bolt pattern axle. For that matter you could probably find a jobber axle,
with a 5 hole pattern, for just about any Dakota application. Then you'd
have your pick of wheels, and maybe even be ahead a couple of bucks!
