Hi all,
I was wondering if any of you folks ('97 V6 owners in particular)
have a rather pronounced TAP-ing sound from the engine. This noise is
NOT the injectors. I know what they sound like. This sound is just
like a sticking lifter or a hydraulic one that hasn't pumped up.
For those who know what a leaking header at the head sounds like then
you know exactly what I am hearing.
It is twice as loud as the injector noises. Happens only when the
engine is warmed up. The engine has 650 miles on it. The noise
sounds like it is coming from down on the side of the motor,
particularly the passenger side down low, or down the back. I've had
my stethescope all over it but cannot find what is producing the
noise.
If you stand on either side of the truck by the side view mirrors you
can hear it clear. If you stand at the front ... you loose it.
Any ideas?
Thanks, Matt!
BTW ... For you guys looking for splash gaurds for your '97 4x4's with
flares, try looking at a set of the hard molded ones for the '97 F150
4x4. The F150's have a wheel flare and their gaurds are deep enough to
accept the flair. They are not marked with any ford logos or anything
that I could see so they would look pretty generic. I eye-balled
these up on a new F150 in the parking lot and they *look* real close.
Hope it helps some!
BBTW ... is the fuel pump in the '97 Dakota V6 mechanical, or in-tank
electric, or neither? What # are the fuel injectors rated? Are they
pintle-type, or disc-type, or neither?
Thanks again ...
I'm in digest mode so if anyone wouldn't mind, CC'ing
pmp@roadnet.ups.com directly
I'd appreciate it as I'm anxious to hear about this noise and don't
want to wait until tomorrow's digest.
Later.
