If you haven't already, change the distributor cap and rotor, spark plugs,
and plug wires - it's time to anyway.

When the stock distributor cap center electrode wears to a certain point,
it simply stops. Aftermarket (NAPA) caps move much further before reaching
the stops. Two spark gaps are probably just too much to overcome, and
could cause sudden failure like this.

Ignition problems don't show up as SBEC codes.
