And to tak things ever further... Did you know that the BFG AT
tires are 'measured' from the middle of the tread depth??? (That's what
I was told)... My stock GY In..you know, didn't have any clearance
problems... My BFG AT 215/75-15 (same SIZE as the GY's) hit the frame
at full lock (the rub the little rubber 'mud' flaps)... My speedo was
off a bit when the tires where new too..(lower than actual speed as the
tires were 'taller' than a stock 215/75-15)... CARLSBAD Raceway took
care of that! :)

The same with motorcycle tires.. A pirelli MT21 (dual sport
knobbie tire) : I have a 120/90-18 rear, my friend has a 130/90-18...
120 mm wide, 90% of 120 high, 18" rim... My friend's tire SHOULD be
only
10mm wider... I measured, no problem for clearance on my bike... The
tire
is nearly 1" wider!! Pirelli measures (on MC tires at least) the width
on
the knobbies on the 120/90, but measure the width of the 130/90 by the
carcass of the tire!! Not the knobbies... Quite a big difference...

So, with all tires, you can use a 'rule' of thumb for measurement,
but when it comes down to individual brands you need to read the
specs...
The guys at Discount Tire where I bought my BFG's knew ahead of time
that
I would have 'clearance' problems because of the BFG's... But that it
wouldn't be bad (it isn't)... Talk to a tire 'eggspert' in your area..

"90/90-21 up front, and 120/90-18 in the rear....on my DR!"
