When I used to work for Firestone, we often did injector cleanings using
a pressurized can of injector cleaner. We disabled the fuel pump and
tapped into the inlet side of the fuel line, clamping the return line
shut. I can remember quite a few cars that made tremendous performance
gains. One in particular was a turbo1 LeBaron with about 60K miles that
ran so much better the owner wanted to know if we put a new turbo in! I
would say if you use the in tank cleaners every once and a while, you
probably won't need to clean them until 50-60k miles. If you don't, get
them purged every 30k or so. Curiously, after changing my plugs, cap and
rotor, and thermostat along with some in-tank injector cleaner, my
truck's ETs dropped from 14.90s to 14.74. My truck has 30k and I always
use premium.
