Tony:

The top rail of the 97 box is different than 96. I have a truck cap for my
97 on order from Rawhide Manufacturing in Kelowna,B.C., but they still
havn't started production yet.

The bottom of the truck box is the same as 96. Truck mats will fit.
Duraliner is now producing a box liner for the 97 Dakota now. I have one
and it looks and fits good.

If you're looking for a slide-in camper shell, you might try one for a 96
to see if it fits.
