Incidentally, for this issue (and for future reference), when doing a
poll type thing like this, it would probably be a good idea for the data to
go to one person who could compile the responses and post the results
to the list.
Personally, I can handle the extra mail and messages because I have
a T1 connection and I use mail filters, but many people read this list
over a 14.4 or 28.8 connection, and their mail gets all jumbled together...
I'm sure they'd appreciate it. :) It would help to keep the signal to
noise ratio higher too...
If I get some time, maybe I'll write a little CGI program that would
allow us to set up a poll and it could be accessed via a form on the
home page. (And maybe even e-mail the results to the list when the
submission period expires.) :)
As far as the auto vs. stick goes, I think I can speed up the process. :)
Since I have direct access to the data in the Profiles, its easy for me
to look up stuff like this.
Of the 88 profiles submitted (out of 300+? tsk. tsk. ;) 87 listed
their tranny type. Here's the info:
Autos: 52 (59.8%)
Sticks: 35 (40.2%)
Autos outnumber the sticks by 1.49:1. As you can see, while autos
outnumber sticks, they don't dominate nearly as much as the total of all
cars in the national average quoted earlier by Bruce. (85% or 5.67:1)
A little bit of additional info: 17 (48.5%) of the sticks were V8's.
33 (63.5%) of the autos were V8's, for a ratio of v8 autos to v8 sticks of
1.94:1; a little higher when you add the V8. These numbers would seem to
support the theory that a v8 stick is a rare beast. :) Just to throw
a couple more numbers into the brew, lets see how the v8 stick compares to
the entire field: 17 v8 sticks out of 57 vehicles. That means 29.8% of
the trucks are v8 sticks, which are outnumbered by a 3.35:1 ratio.
The percentage of v8 sticks is actually quite surprising to me. I
would have expected a much lower showing. I expect that part of the
reason for this may be the performance oriented nature of many subscribers.
I think the "real world" percentage would be a lot lower.
Well, that's more than enough math out of me for one day. :)
