In a message dated 97-07-13 06:17:32 EDT, you write:

<< chamber, 3" inlet and dual 2.5" outlet then Summit racing has those for
$86.50 so [if this is the flowmaster model] his markup is $60.00 more
than what you could buy it for yourself. I don't mind a guy making money
 but that's quite a markup. >>
actually his mark up isn't bad........most shops need to have a 75% gross
margin.....meaning if they buy something for 5$ they need to sell it for
$20....between parts and labor that is.......depending on the shop....they
may have t pay royalties plus taxes not to mention the guy doing the
work.......shops have HUGE over head which is why the cost is always high
when you consider straight tubing (depending on what kind) costs as little
(or at least for us) $10 for a 7 ft stick.......but when you are paying a guy
$20 an hour and it may take a good few hours depnding on his skill to bend
the pipes (even longer depending on where you want them to come out) it all
adds up.....not to mention clamps and hangers and all that other good
stuff......i mean granted i agree...unless he is making you cold rolled steel
pipes that is kinda high.......i usually only charge $200 to eliminate a
muffler put in a Y and make tails back on most cars but then again location
and all that other good stuff
comes into play........granted some shops are cheaper thatn us but my best
bender is worth te extra money cuz if you wanted the pipes coming out the
glove box he would get them there and make it look factory......ayway i'm
rambeling
