Will,

   The cow banner is put at the end of the messages that go through my
WWW to e-mail gateway. When you see one of those, that's a message
that someone has typed into the web page and sent to the list. I suspect
that the empty ones are from accidentally hitting the submit button
(by pressing the enter key instead of the tab key, probably...) This
sends off the message, but there's no body in it yet. It does have
a valid sender e-mail address though, so it goes through.
