they handle the hood latch. The inserts on the Ranger were removeable without tools, but it
wasn't a real quick or easy thing to do. I assume it would be similar on the Dakota, but it
would be a big pain to have to pull one out every time I needed to open the hood.

Hum... I forgot about the hood release. At one time.... I'd thought about
welding a small rod to the hood release and dropping it down, below the front
grille so that when the hood poped up, I could reach under the grille, move the
rod and open the hood that way. I didn't look at that real close... I think
that it might be do able. I don't know if there is a strait path down from the
latch past the radiator or not. I'll have to look at that more closely
tonight.
