My 2WD 97 V6 is getting about 17.1MPG according to the little trip computer. I haven't checked it receintly, but I believe it reads a bit low. I think I'm really getting somewhere in the range of 17.5 to 18.0. This is probably 60%+ highway driving. When the truck was new it started at about 13 or 14MPG and *slowly* increased. I don't think I was reading above 16MPG until after 5000 miles (I've got 16K on the truck now and it's been right around 17+ for the last 8 or 10K) I've heard the same story from a number of others on the list. It seems that for some reason these engines just take a while to break in. If you don't have a couple thousand miles on the truck I wouldn't worry yet.

Ok, I have a question for all V6 2WD owners......what kind of average gas mileage
do you get. I am getting frustrated. My '97 has been averaging 15 MPG.....yes
15...... I would understand if I had a 4WD V8 but mine is just a baby truck!!!!
It also seems that my mileage has decreased over the 6 months that I have owned
it. Any suggestions??????
Thanks
Pete
