What does the FIPK have that this setup doesn't have? What kind of
performance should I expect to gain? It's custom made to fit your TB
including the notorious "S" bolt which allows the much larger air filter
to be centered over the TB. ALso includes cleaner and re-oiler. Last, but
not least if you live in a state that inspects vehicles closely, is a
CARB approval sticker. Performane gains are nice; the sound of the open
element is awesome. But, where you really notice the difference is when
you add a low restriction cat-back system like Gibson or Flowmaster.

It was worth it to me, but the intrinsic value of having a hand in the
fabrication may make it more worthwhile to do it yourself.

Look in http://www.georcities.com/MotorCity/Downs/7875

This is the homepage of Sean Meldrum. He used be very active on the DML
and he put together what he calls "Fresh Air By Meldrum." It's a
do-it-yourself K&N clone. Sean has done many great things with his DAK
(albeit a '97) and is a very knowledgeable source. His 14.98 @ 91.76
speaks for itself.
