Tried this routine on my '95 over the weekend. The rubber knob is a
single unit, with no flats to assist in removal. So I made a pad out of
towels & duct tape to protect the knob, isolated the torque by holding
the lever below the boot with an adjustable wrench, and cranked on the
knob with slip-joint pliers.

No dice. This sucker doesn't want to move. And since I don't want to
tear anything up, I've abandoned my quest to change the stock knob. Hope
I never have to get the thing off for real.

  Oh well,

  Ron
