I agree. The sodium azide charge in an airbag is the same thing as in
a GI hand grenade. not to be fooled with.

Still, wrecking yards have to (and do) deal with them. Maybe they'd be
able to help, or have the instructions. The FSM has to have safing
instructions too so a mechanic could work on the steering column.
If you do attempt it, the first step I'd take would be to roll down
all the windows so they don't get blown out if it inadvertently does
go off.

I believe there's no benefit to airbags. 99.99% of the benefits the
NHTSA attributes to them I believe are due to the seat belts the
occupants were wearing.
