<< he dealer I am going through has continually tried to get me to buy a Ram
instead of a Dakota in order to handle the towing. I don't want, nor can I
afford, a full size truck. This dealer does not have a truck equipped as
above on the lot, so I can't test drive a tow. I've been told I would have to
order one to get the setup I want. That was fine with me, but when I told him
I would only pay $100 over invoice for an ordered truck he got upset. Why
should I pay more than that for a truck they don't even have any overhead on??
This will be my first NEW vehicle, so maybe I'm not handling it right?

I see you alrady got all the responses about towing.
I bought my 98 in December with a towing package. I wet up to www.edmunds.com
and then clicked on auto-by-tel. it read "if you want to buy this truck cheap,
click this button" anyway, I filled out what kind of truck I wanted and my
phone number. A guy from a dealership near my house called me and priced the
truck at $300 over invoice. I went in a couple of days later. Decided on a few
different options than what he priced out. And he quoted me a new price of
$100 over invoice, so I signed. (he also showed me the invoice and it matched
what I read on edmunds)
He didn't have the one I wanted, he could order it, but first he tried a
locate, he found one with an upgraded stereo and a posi rear. He charged me
invoice for the additional things and $100 to get a runnner to go the 100
miles to get the truck.
I had the truck within a week. The whole deal in the dealership took about 30
minutes.

Good luck,
Nick
