I have a V8 98 and dont have an idle problem. My trans seems to rev it
a little high for the first mile or so though (auto). I seem to
remember discussion about the hard shifting. If you dont get a
response as "newbie", post again with the problem as the subject of
message. Joe Borg

Hi all
I just bought a 98 2 wheel drive with the v6 and five speed. I started it
up this morning to let it warm up (it was only 10 degrees this morning)
and I noticed that the idle would fluctuate between about 1000 rpm and 800
rpm. Is this a common problem with the new dakotas?
I've also noticed that my transmission is a littlt hard to get to go into
first and second gear. Should I have the dealer look at this or should I
just wait to see if the tranny gets broke in with more driving (it only
has 800 miles on it)?
Other than that I love this truck. It is so smooth and quiet, a huge
change from my old fulsize with a cummins diesel.
