There are legal requirements for this, which the manufacturer must accept
to establish compliance with maintenance requirements, but I don't know the
letter of the law. I can tell you what I've heard through the grapevine,
and my own practice.
Save all the receipts from your oil and filters. These will be useful
in any dispute with the dealer or manufacturer over warranty claims.
The only time a manufacturer can void your warranty for use of non-factory
maintenance consumables (e.g. oil, filters) is IF they provide those items
at no cost to you.
