A little clarification is in order here. First of all the bike was a
Yamaha YZF1000, a nice bike but not the fastest nor best handling out
there. The editor for Cycle World later admitted that the YZF1000
probably wasn't the best choice for a bike for the showdown. A Ducati
916 or a Honda CBR900 probably would have been better. The bike was
ridden by one of the editors of Cycle World magazine and is much a
professional as the guy on the CD staff who drove the Viper. The Viper
won on the road portion of the shootout which was kind of expected since
it would crazy for a bike rider to go all out on public roads. The bike
ate the Viper for breakfast in the 1/4 mile portion of the showdown.
Here's the part that CD glossed over which I think determines the
outcome of the showdown. THE VIPER BLEW UP! Yes during one of the race
track portions of the showdown it threw a rod. They could not finish the
showdown which included timed runs on the Willow Springs Street track (
a tighter course than the regular Willow Springs track). The Viper
DNFed! While I'll agree that the Viper is the most awesome, baddest
production car sold in the U.S. today, the showdown that CD claimed
victory for proved nothing. Just thought I'd set the record straight.
