Diff plugs

I noticed the differential cover plugs are nothing more than press in plastic
plugs. This is on a '96. I'd like to replace them with a metal, maybe
magnetized, screw in type. There are vents for each diff, so venting wouldn't be
a problem with this conversion.

Anyone done this? It looks like I'd have to weld a nut onto the inside of the
cover, or replace the cover with one so equipped.
