This might be old news; I apologize if it is... I just happened to
notice a tiny news item in the Dec. 1997 issue of Mopar Muscle that
says:

Ram & Dakota top Strategic Vision list
Results of a new Total Quality Index survey taken by Strategic Vision
Inc. puts the Dodge Dakota at the top of the Compact Pickup grouping and
the Ram out in front in the Full-Sized Pickup category.
With 1,000 points being a perfect score, the new-for-1997 Dakota
scored an 824, beating out the #2 Toyota Tacoma and #3 Chevrolet S10,
dispelling the myth that first-year vehicles are traditionally trouble
prone. In the Full-Sized Pickup category, the Dodge Ram scored an
identical 824, easily beating out the Chevrolet C/K series. This was
a repeat win for the Dodge Ram. Oh yeah, the Ford F-Series didn't even
make the list.

Also in the same magazine was a sidebar saying that Chrysler plans to
offer a police version of the Durango in 1999.
