Intake manifolds?

Yet another question brought on by that Magnum Performance Tips
article:

They mentioned that you could replace the "asthma attack factory
intake" with a Mopar Performance aluminum intake manifold. They
said there are two versions, a dual plane and a single plane.
Dual being for gas mileage and single being for power. ("particularly
above 4500 RPM") The article mentions that these manifolds would
need to have their "injector bosses buzzed out". (Whatever that means!)
They said "Rumor has it MP will soon be doing these Magnum performance
manifolds with pre-drilled injector holes, making this an out-of-the-box
bolt up." (This was in the Nov-Dec 1997 issue)

They gave two part numbers, P5249500 (dual plane) and P5249501
(single plane). I looked these up in the 1998 catalog, and I'm not
quite sure how they would be used. Here is the description:

---------------
    318/360 MAGNUM INTAKE MANIFOLDS

Cast aluminum, 4-BBL carbureted intake manifolds for use with
1992-current 318 and 1993 on 360 Magnum engines. Designed for standard
Holley single 4-barrel carburetor. Uses vertical attaching screws
to the head, as Magnum design dictates - will not fit earlier "A"
engines. As used on 380/300 Magnum crate motors.

P5249500 318/360 Magnum Intake Manifold - Dual Plane
P5249501 318/360 Magnum Intake Manifold - Single Plane
---------------

Sounds almost like you have to use a carburetor with them. Unless
the TBI will just bolt on? Confusing... The price for both the single
plane and the dual plane was $315, so my guess is that you could probably
get them from an outfit like Koller Dodge for about $240. (25% off) Both
of the above were flagged as "not legal for sale or use on pollution
controlled motor vehicles".

However, just below these (in the catalog), was the following:

---------------
    NEW!
MAGNUM MPI SINGLE PLANE INTAKE MANIFOLD

This new MPI single plane manifold fits 1992-1998 Magnum V8 engines
and replaces the stock intake. Uses adapter to allow the stock
throttle body to be used. Features machined bosses for individual
injectors used on MPI. Single plane design gives more power and
more engine speed potential. Uses Magnum style verticl attaching
screws - doesn't fit older style heads.

P5249816 318/360 Magnum Intake Manifold - Single Plane - For MPI System
             No Lost
---------------

Now, THIS sounds more like it! This sounds like the part that the
magazine said was rumored to come out. There was no price in the
catalog (must be really new?) so I called Koller Dodge and they
gave me a price of $206.25. (List price is $275) I assume these are
EPA legal, since it doesn't say otherwise. Anyone know what "No Lost"
means in the part number description?

Anyone know anything about these intakes? Are they worth it? What
kind of power gains, etc? Obviously I don't know anything about them,
but they would seem to be a logical "next step" after porting the
throttle body. (or maybe the "first step?")
