Hi Todd,

1997 Dakotas used Chryslers 8 1/4 Rear Axle manufactured at the
Detroit Axle Plant, 6700 Lynch Road, Detroit, Michigan.

1997 (and 1998) changed from 27 tooth splines to 29 tooth splines.
The gearsets are now Face Hob gearsets. The 3.90 Ratio changed
to 3.92. The TrackLoc (SureGrip/Powerloc/LSD) is made by Dana.

For 1998 there is also the 9 1/4 Axle available.
