Should I order an R/T?

Hi everyone.
You may remember me as the guy who was scared to go from a sports
car to a truck. (Daytona IROC R/T was the car I have) Well, If I can
find a dealership who really knows what my car is worth (Its not in the
NADA book) then I will be purchasing a Dakota. I was planing on buying a
98 Dakota sport 318 5-speed, 3.55, sure grip, the works. Now I am
reading about the R/T Dakota. It has everything that I wanted to do to
the sport, already done to it from the factory. (fender flairs, 17 inch
wheels, lowered "allthough i wouldn't call 1 inch drop a lowered truck"
, It has a color keyed front bumper etc...
Problem is.... will I be happy with an automatic? Is driving this truck
going to be "uneventful"??? will I be missing alot going to an
automatic? I am really not that big a fan when it comes to automatics,
but I realize that this is not a sports car.(long throw transmition vs.
the short throw that i am used to) 20 extra horsepower doesn't seem like
a whole lot, but the 45 or so foot pounds of torque sure sounds nice. I
read in Autoweek that it handled as good if not better that a new
pontiac firebird! WOW! What do you guys think? Have any of you gone from
a 5-speed to a automatic? As you can tell I am a little confused as to
what I should get. I need a little nudge to help me figure this out.
(Its not like I can just go to a dealership and test drive an R/T !
:) Or a 318 5-speed regular cab for that matter (5 dealerships is
Massachusetts don't have any!)
Well, sorry for rambling, I would just like some opinions from you guys.

Thanx
Jay
