That's because (from what I've heard of these bands, anyway) they all play
at a constant volume -- loud. It's a heck of a lot easier to make that
sound good than to make a system that will play the entire range of, say, a
good recording of Tchaikovsky's 1812. That has quiet, soft spots and live
cannon fire. In college, when my roommate was building his stereo system he
used to bring his own 1812 CD to test decks and speakers in the store.
Salesdroids hated him because he always managed to find the weaknesses in
their demo setups. Most of them wanted to go back to Nine Inch Nails to
show how good that sounded.
