Howdy Yall! (Thats southern for Hello) Greetings from God's Country (Savannah,Georgia)
I own a Red and White 1991 Dakota CCab 2WD 5.2 V-8 with TBI. The previous owner
order it with a towing package and even had a "gooseneck" hitch with trailer brake
installed. They used it for towing a small horsetraiIer. I realize that I missed out on the
Magnum engines by a year. Now I know why I got such a good deal. I shelled out 10,500
clams for this used vehicle when it had 60K miles on it near the end of 1992. Recently,
(yesterday) the odometer just rolled over 183K miles. The truck has been everything I
wanted...except I was surprised at the low ground clearance. I expected to be able to get
under a truck without using jacks.. but I can live with it. The other exception is the engine
(surprise, surprise).
Although I and the 318 are still running strong, it is getting to the age where I need to plan
for the time it may need replacement or rebuilding. As for me, I will keep working out
regularly. This is where I may need some help with my options.
Does any one out there know if I can convert my 5.2 TBI into a MPI? Is this a good idea? Should I look for a rebuilt 5.2 magnum engine to replace this one?
I have had a difficult time finding street legal headers. Any tips?
Have cat back systems really improved performance for anyone?
Last but not least, I'm running Hoosier 225X70R15's on factory 6.5 mag wheels. They
have 73,000 miles on them and need replacement.
Can anyone recommend a wider Mag rim and tire size combo that is reasonably priced?
Any info concerning these matters would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Kirk
