R/T Wheel Specs

If you'd like to know what the exact spec's are on the R/T
wheels/tires, I pulled one off today and checked it. Yes, things are
not quite as the brochure says:

  Wheels:

        17x10 (brochure says 17x8")
        6 lug x 4.5" bolt circle
        5.625" backspacing
        2.803" dia. hub register

  Tires:

        Goodyear Eagle RS-A P255x55-17
        Measured width = 10.75"
        Measured height = 28.00"

  Spare:

        Identical to the above!

  Other observations are:

  1. The (my) R/T did not come with the "tilt steering column"
      as shown in the brochure.

  2. Brochure says 15 gal fuel tank is optional, window sticker
shows 15 gal tank, fill-up took 18.2 gals (with low gas indicator
showing). I'm assuming I have a 22 gal tank, possibly due to
the presence of "heavy duty service group", which lists all
sub-options on the sticker EXCEPT the 22 gal tank?

  3. This thing REALLY sucks gas - the 40 mile ride home put the gas
needle between 3/4 and full. Oh well, good thing I only drive
      6,000 miles a year.

  4. Doesn't like to kick-down when hitting the throttle - it may
just be my driving habits, as I've had mostly sticks for the last
      25 years.

  5. Crawled around under it today, could not find the "build sheet"
anywhere in the frame-rails, any other ideas?

  6. While under there, noticed the 2 head pipes are only 2" diameter
before entering the single catalytic converter. Mighty small
for a 360" motor! Might be alot of gains made here.

  7. The front hubs are separate from the brake rotors. This may be
a "help" in my quest to re-drill the bolt pattern. Anybody know
about the "front ABS" system? There are no wheel speed sensors
present, like on our Impala SS. How does it work?

  8. As is, I don't see how this thing can be lowered much, the tires
would definitely interfere with the flares. Maybe with 8" rims
(and the same backspacing), but it seems that would be a negative
step. The bump-stop on the front, at rest, only allows for 3"
(max) travel before compressing the bumper. The rear could be
dropped 3" or so, but it would definitely need a heavy-duty bump
      stopper kit.

  9. The rear has room for wheels 2" wider, if backspacing is increased
accordingly (to the inside). Maybe the Viper wheels (10" & 13")
      will fit?

Hope this helps some of you,

                        Russ Selkirk
