I kept getting the same 17 message on my 90 Dak and changed the thermostat.
When I changed the thermostat I discovered a small piece of gasket material
wedged in the sensor area. I don't know if this was the cause as I went ahead
and replaced the thermostat anyway. My temp gauge would barely reach the
beginning of the operating range but now it is a good quarter inch into the
range.
