Yeah, I gotta' go with Richard on this one. I'm on my second Alpine (the
first one is for sale if anyone wants it....250....e-mail me for details) and I
am just as satisfied with this one as I am the last one! You may
experience some dofference in sound cuz' the aftermarket one's usually
don't put out as many watts as the factory ones, but you can add amps
and changers to aftermarket, and you are very limited with factory. I think
the new Alpines for 98 put out 40 watts, but they are pricey... but we
come to expect that from Alpine. IMHO, go aftermarket all the way. More
options, and a learning experience!

I'd STRONGLY recommend going with after market stuff for ANY
car/truck
audio. You can get nearly any radio and put in the DAK. I have a Sony
deck now, and I'm probably going to move my Alpine deck from my Neon
to
my Dak soon. You don't have to buy one of the larger double din radios
that Pioneer makes either if you don't want. They do finish off the
appearance nicely, but if you find another radio in a single din model
that you like, you can buy a mounting kit that will fill in the open
space around the new deck. Or, if you are creative, you can make your
own! : )

I've never heard a factory model radio that had half the clarity of an
Alpine or other good name brand deck. What's funny is the deck that
came in my Neon was made by Alpine, yet it still sounded like crap
compared to the after market Alpine one I put in there. The factory
Alpine speakers that were in it were OK, but I still replaced them
anyway with some Boston Acoustics.

For your money, after market audio is better. Prime example, the add-on
CD changer that you can get to go with the factory unit in my Neon costs
$600! That's JUST the changer, not a head unit too! I bought a new head
unit and a changer both for my wife's 240SX and spend $650.

Just my opinion though.
