feedback from a digest member

I rarely get to read my e-mail daily, so every 2-4 days I sit down and
go through 3-5 digests per day, taking roughly 15 minutes per digest. I
really enjoy this mailing list immensely, even with its occasional
meanderings. With this in mind, I thought I'd comment on some issues
discussed lately regarding lengths of sig. files and other things.
If every one kept their sig file down to 4 lines, not only would it
shave probably 1/5 off each digest, but think how it shrinks the reply
that doesn't snip the original post's sig file that was 10 lines long.
I really appreciated Mike reducing his sig file. Walter's sig file is
15 lines long and completely takes up my browser's window by itself.
(not to pick on you, buddy) Maybe everyone could revamp their sigs and
we can see if it helps.
Another difficulty I have is reading a reply that includes the
complete original post, the 8 line sig, and so on. Then that one gets
replied to and includes the last two replies and so on. Some editing
would be much more helpful. Occasionally, a complete digest comes
through as a reply, but I always assume this is a mistake.
I also get some sort of messages that takes every word of a post and
reprints it 6 or 8 times, and I dont know why. Is this my computers
inabiltiy to read some e-mail or is it on the other end? Each time it
happens, it takes about 10% of a complete digest.
My last discussion involves the importance of the subject line. A
list of all the subject lines for every post included in the digest is
posted first on the digest. I use this table of contents as an easy
reference to pan down past topics that I am not interested in at the
time and find those that I would like to read. Frequently, a thread
will change the topic, but the subject line has not been changed.
Checking the subject line and re-naming it could be beneficial for us
digest members.
Sorry to bore you, just seems like we're kindof cleaning house and
thought this may help everyone in the long run.

Patrick
