Short answer: NO!

Long answer: The spark timing is controller by the computer and the
magnetic sensors on the harmonic balancer/crank pulley.

Timing must be set by a dealership with the correct electronic
diagnostic equipment. I can fax you the page out of the 1997
service manual if you are in doubt.

Don't tinker with the distributor. Its position
controls fuel distribution (again, according the manual).
