Ford recalls 103,000 of new Super Duty trucks
7.07 a.m. ET (1107 GMT) May 28, 1998
DETROIT - Ford Motor Co. has announced the recall of
103,000 of its new 1999 F-250, F-350, F-450 and F-550
Super Duty trucks because of potential steering
problems.
Ford also said 12,000 of the 1999 F-350 trucks with a
single rear wheel are being recalled because they may
not meet federal requirements for parking brakes.
==> A "single rear wheel"? It's no wonder why those
Ferd trucks are slower than Dakotas. We've got
twice as many wheels in the back-end pushing us along.
Say, that "single rear wheel" isn't a big drag-slick
or anything sneaky like that, is it?
I'm picturing a Ferd truck wheeling along with a
single Flintstones-type wheel under the bed.
That'd be funny!
On the steering issue, Ford said rivets on a steering
shaft flexible coupling made by an outside supplier
may not be secure, causing the coupling to turn and
reduce or hamper steering.
Neither problem has resulted in reports of accidents
or injuries, Ford said. Owners should allow a half-day
to repair the steering problem.
Production of the new Super Duty trucks, some of the
most profitable in Ford's lineup, began in
mid-January. The recall was the first Ford has
disclosed publicly for the new Super Duty trucks, Ford
spokeswoman Karen Shaughnessy said.
There have been other safety recalls on the trucks
that Ford resolved at dealers before the vehicles were
delivered to customers. Shaughnessy said she did not
know how many other recalls there had been.
The Super Duty recall is the second in a little more
than two weeks involving Ford's popular light trucks.
On May 12, Ford said it was recalling 1.7 million 1997
and 1998 model-year F-150 and F-250 full-size pickup
trucks and Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator
full-size sport utility vehicles for wheel lug
==> For "wheel lug...."? What is the rest of the sentance? I wonder
if anyone proofreads the articles before the articles are posted to
the Foxnews web page.....
Isn't it Alan Jackson in the Ferd commercials who sings
"If I had money, tell ya what I'd do. I'm gonna go down
town and buy a Ferd truck or two...."
Well, you better three or four Ferds while you have that checkbook
out. That way you'll have something to drive while the other
Ferds are in the dealership getting fixed.
