I used a piece of 3.5" intake hose that probably came off some v-6 GM
A-body, or some 6 or 4 cyllinder Fjiord. Cut the length to fit, and
squeezed the clamp-down end over the cut piece of tubing I turned around
and pushed through the air box. Now I need to find a drop-in K&N. Does
anyone know the p/n?

That pipe would need to be insulated, IMHO. Sure would look good,
though. Depending on how well the current set up works, I will try to
wrap it in some of the insulating blanket I wrapped my Ramit system in on
my SS. Since this is a speed-density system (I think I remember a
posting that said that), I don't think it will be as sensitive to heat as
the mass air flow systems are. Still, the cooler you can make that air
entering, the denser it will be, and the more oxygen it will have = more
power. Now all I need to do is go get that Radio Shack temp gauge and do
some serious testing.

Unfortunately, there is not a lot of room in front of that flap. I
measure a maximum of about 3", and that is not even considering whether
or not clearances get tighter as you open/close the hood. It would
probably be better to make some oval-shaped tube that just fills that
hole made by removing the rubber filler and route it to a nice, big
insulated box, with another large dia. insulated tube from the box to the
TB.
OR, you might be able to build a housing around that opening, like on the
K&N(?) fresh air intake for the SS, to isolate the intake and filter from
the engine compartment.

Yes, we are! :-)
