I have an Air-Air intercooler for my Stang (not installed yet). It
mounts parallel to the ground behind and slightly underneath the
radiator (imagine looking down between the radiator fan and engine to
see it). An air dam made of rubber is attached to redirect air through
it. The core is about 1.5 to 2 inches thick. It's optimized for 12 psi
of boost from an S-trim.
That's probably the only suitable location if you don't have any real
estate behind the grill.
