Picked up the summer issue of Power Wagon and SUV. The '98 R/T (CC)
is on the cover. They do an extensive series of drag tests, with a best ET
on a stock truck of 14.73. They got around 15.3 when they started. To
improve times, they lowered the tail gate, removed the air cleaner
assembly, and lowered tire pressure to around 20psi. They claim that
a tonneau substantially lowers ET and raises gas mileage. I'm eager
to test out the latter after mine gets installed tomorrow.
Other interesting stuff on the 2000 Dakota. Apparently this is the last
year for the pushrod engines. They claim the 318 is already replaced
by the 4.7L OHC - I don't think this is true, has anyone seen a
non-R/T '99 yet? In 2000, they say the base V8 will be the 4.7L,
with the R/T getting the yet to be released 275HP 4.7L HO. They
also mention the quad doors on the CC in 2000.
