There is actually a "gear" on the end of that sensor to connect it to
the output shaft of the transmission and you change the "gear" to make
the sensor send signals at a different rate to the JTEC and on to the
speedo itself. There hasn't been a "speedo cable" connected to that gear
for a number of years. For anyone thats interested, drop by the parts
counter the next time you're at the Dodge dealer and they have a
"blow-up" on the parts computer of the related components. Also, the
Dak's have a separate category in the parts computer for "speedo pinion
gears", and if the parts guy isn't familiar with the setup, he'll look
under "Transmission" and "Differential" and tell you that there are no
"speedo pinion gears" available...

My 98 dakota does not have a speedo gear, It has a speedo sensor where
the
gear would be. I would think that we should be able to get different
sensors for adjusting the speedo when changing gears and or tire size's.
