Being I am one of the guys on the list that drives a lot (96700 miles in 3.5
years),
and the fact that all of my fill ups are documented in my mileage logs...( I
do it
for taxes!), here's the scoop on mileage:
'95 SLT 5 spd, 4x2, 3.90 gearing.
Running with 215-75-15's (stock tires) I would get 16 mpg mixed driving
(40+ miles a day with 70-75 mph speeds on highway, then the usually city
driving mixed in). With the same size tire, and BFG AT tires I dropped
1-1.5
mpg on the same driving routine.
I did manage a best of 19.9 mpg with the stock tires on a 600 mile drive
running an honest 70 mpg (2450 rpm).
When I ran the 255-60-15 tires, mileage around town went up about .8-1
mpg
on average, with highway milege improving to 17.5-18 mpg (again running 70
mph). Last November I drove from Las Vegas to San Diego, in 4 hours, 15
or
so minutes on fumes... 80 mph the entire time on cruise... Mpg? 15.0
mpg...
running 2800 rpm.... Running the same trip to Lost Wages at a 75 mph clip
(2600 rpm) improved mileage to 17 mpg.
Now, running with the BFG's again, my mileage recently hit an all time
high.
Flagstaff to Yuma, AZ... 311 miles, 15.25 gallons (68 mph ~ 2350 rpm)...
20.25 mpg... I was stoked.
So, running anything above 2350-2400 rpm causes a big drop in fuel
economy.
Oh yeah, this is on a modified truck too... so my mileage really wasn't
affected by the mods. The shell I have weighs about 225 lbs, and it doesn't
help or hinder the mileage one bit..off or on it's the same.
"Looked at an RT yesterday-- the Yellow one, then the Red one...
$28k...."
"My '95 will sure be missed...."
"HA--- Not likely-- Something about a $500+ payment woke me up."
"Guess $5000-6000 on maint. and improvements isn't that bad!!"
