Now I'm really intrigued!!! I assume your cranking it a couple of times
with the coil removed after refilling everything (this clarification is
necessary only because I am stupid and don't understand the dynamics of
what's going on :-).
How does *not* filling the oil filter before spinning it on jeopardize the
starter???? I've only changed the oil and filter twice on my Dak and each
time it fired up just as quick as before the change... What am I missing
here?
Thanks

When I worked as a mechanic (lube bitch) for a trucking company, I was told to
fill it up. But understand, a rig's oil filter is about 12 inches long and it
screws up at a neat 90 degrees.
I dont think it would hurt our trucks to screw up dry, but you could fill up
half way too. THis way you dont spill any of that expensive stuff.
I have always primed my engine.
Before you start, take off the Ignition coil wire and crank her over until you
have pressure. Lately, I dont know if this is a good idea or not. My old 87
3.9 used to prime right away. My 92 5.2 takes forever to bring up pressure.
I dont want to prematurely kill my starter.
